MTC

I've had a great week at the MTC.  There are 146 in our group of senior missionaries--four of us single sisters.  One couple is going to North Viet Nam.  Excluding them, none of the assignments is better than mine.  My companion is going to an Indian reservation in Arizona to set up an associate degree nursing program for the Navajo people.  She'll be living alone in a trailer.  California's looking better to me all the time.

Elder Russell M. Nelson was the speaker at Tuesday's devotional, which was taped and sent to all the other MTC's, of which there are many.  It was amazing to sit in a huge auditorium filled with missionaries and realize that the same thing is going on in many parts of the world.  He pronounced a blessing on all of us, which was very powerful.  And, by the way, he drove down in a not-so-new Toyota Avalon!

The younger missionaries treat us with such respect.  I'm going to miss having doors opened for me and Elders insisting we go to the head of the line.  It's great training for them and will serve them well in the mission field and in life.  Watching them and our young instructors in action is a great tonic if one is feeling pessimistic about the younger generation...
